Case of study

Name: Steven Alexis Amaya.
Age: 12
School life: sixt grade

Steven Amaya is twelve years old, he is in sixth grade. Steven has a beautiful family, he receives love, attention, education, and even if his parents work, he receives stimulation not only from his parents but also from his older sister.

I have been observing him for 5 days, and what I notice is that, in the physical development he has some troubles in mastering his gross and fine motor skills, because while cutting a piece of paper, first he needs to draw a line so he can know where to follow, and even with that, it is not a completely straight  cut the result. Also at his age, its states that they are able to do anything with their bodies, and its true, he can ride a bike, he can bounce a ball, he can jump, and so more.

In the cognitive development, Steven has shown that he is able to store information, and become more realistic and use logic at the moment to put it in practice, like solving a math problem. Also something it really caught my attention is that after 35 minutes doing a math homework he had, he start getting distracted by other things, he starts drawing, and playing with his pencil.

So, I get to a point that I asked my self if a twelve years old salvadorean boy  develops the formal operation stage of Jean Piaget’s cognitive theory.

It was importan to remember some characteristic that this stages present, first is that the formal operational stage begins at approximately age twelve, also, during this time the ability to think about abstract concepts is develop. Skills such as logical thought, deductive reasoning, and systematic planning also emerge during this stage.

Hence, at the end I could find that the theory is proved in Steven's life because he is able to manipulate ideas, he can solve problems, he use deductive reasoning, and he s developing his abstract thoughts. But, I also consider that the stimulation that Steven receives from his parents its rally meaningful because it provides a good environment to him to have more freedom to develop his knowledge of different things.
